the artists

co-owner. black and grey realism — statues, mythology and portraits at sleeve scale.

high contrast black and grey and chicano work, built for longevity. large scale projects a speciality.

fifteen years in, and the artist the rest of us learned from. colour realism and black and grey.
what to expect
a black and grey session opens with time on the design itself, checking scale and placement before anything touches skin. small pieces usually sit in one appointment of two to three hours. anything bigger, a half sleeve, a back piece, a full composition, gets planned as a series of sittings from the start, mapped out at the first consultation so you know roughly what you're committing to before it begins. your artist will talk you through healing and timing between sessions as you go.
the detail
black and grey is the backbone of the studio. four of the artists here work in it: kai, jason, raf and cameron. an appointment with any one of them starts the same way: a proper conversation about what you actually want, not a five minute chat before the machine comes out. nothing here is picked off a wall or repeated from someone else's arm. every piece is drawn specifically for the person having it, at a consultation where scale gets discussed honestly before style does. sizing a black and grey piece to comfortably carry everything in it is one of the first things we get right, and it's a conversation we always give proper time.
that's also the point of matching you to an artist rather than handing you the next available appointment. kai's work lives or dies on the eyes and mouth, built up in patient layers rather than pushed through in one pass. jason works in high contrast lettering and large scale projects, chicano and religious imagery mostly, built for pieces that read cleanly decades from now. raf moves between realism, horror and japanese without the standard slipping, which is unusual, and it's exactly why he's the artist other artists here point people towards when a brief is broad. cameron works statues and mythology at sleeve scale, mapping a full composition before the first sitting so nothing looks bolted on at the end. four specialists, four different strengths, and the studio's job is working out which one actually fits your idea rather than whichever has a gap in the diary.
black and grey rewards that kind of care. it's built entirely on contrast, and on linework underneath strong enough to still be doing its job in twenty years. that's the standard every piece here is tattooed to, and your artist will talk you through it honestly at every stage, from the first sketch through to how a design will read once it's actually healed rather than how it looks flat on paper.
appointments here run by consultation, not a queue. bring the sharpest reference photos you can find, full-resolution originals where you have them, since likeness and shading detail both come from seeing the source clearly. the conversation about scale, placement and which artist suits the piece happens before anything is booked in, so you know exactly what you're committing to from the very start.
